Grilled Elk Steak with Herb Butter
Ingredients:
2 Elk steaks, about 1 inch thick
2 tablespoons olive oil
Salt and freshly ground black pepper
Herb Butter:
1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped
1 tablespoon fresh thyme leaves, chopped
1 tablespoon fresh rosemary, chopped
Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
Instructions:
Preparation:
Take the elk steaks out of the refrigerator and let them sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes.
Preheat your grill to medium-high heat.
In a small bowl, mix together the olive oil, salt, and black pepper. Rub this mixture onto both sides of the elk steaks. Herb Butter:
In another bowl, combine the softened butter, minced garlic, chopped parsley, thyme, and rosemary. Add a pinch of salt and black pepper. Mix well until evenly combined. Grilling:
Place the elk steaks on the preheated grill. For medium-rare, grill for about 4-5 minutes per side, depending on the thickness of the steaks and your desired level of doneness. Elk meat is very lean, so be cautious not to overcook it, as it can become tough. Resting and Serving:
Once the steaks are done, remove them from the grill and let them rest for 5 minutes. This allows the juices to redistribute, resulting in a juicy and tender steak.
After resting, place a generous dollop of the herb butter on top of each steak to let it melt and infuse the meat with its fragrant flavors. Serve: Serve the grilled elk steaks with a crisp green salad or your favorite grilled vegetables for a well-rounded meal. Accompany with a full-bodied red wine, such as a Merlot or Cabernet Sauvignon, to complement the rich, hearty flavors of the elk steak.
